Science Project '13

Unlike Chris' voluntary science fair project posted earlier, Acacia had a science project assignment.  They had to create a project using magnets and electricity.  What is the first thing that comes to mind???  Of course!  Make your own homemade speaker!

With MANY hours of her Dad 's time, Acacia made two totally functioning speakers using magnets, wire, paper plates and the amp from an old pair of computer speakers.  Trial and error, night and night - until we were all dancing to Taylor Swift - clear as could be from a paper plate!

Her dad kept her up VERY late rehearsing the night before the presentation.  I was able to skip out of work and catch the last 20 minutes of the presentation and she NAILED it!!  Spoke VERY clearly and did not hesitate when asked questions from other parents, fellow classmates and teachers!!  I was VERY proud of both of them!

Funny side story ... as not everyone there knew who I was ... couples would walk up to Acacia's booth and see/hear it work and walk away saying stuff like

"clearly her parents made that ...." and
"well, I think her dad is an engineer or something ...."

What ever!  Her teacher was impressed!!  See the grade she received below.

It says EXCEPTIONAL is every category.  Teacher wrote "WOW!  I am super impressed Acacia!  You designed a complex project/invention."  A 4 is the highest grade the school is allowed to give and RARELY are they given out.  They are only given out when a student way exceeds the expectations of the assignment.  If they take a test and answer every question correctly, they receive a 3.  If they also added an additional relative paragraph about the topics tested on, they might receive a 4.  Acacia is VERY proud of this and so is her Dad!!

  1. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! So much better than my static electricity experiment that measure the strength of the static electricity gathered in a plastic comb by how many hole punches it picked up....

THAT'S AWESOME ACACIA!!!!! When can I order my set of paper plate speakers?
